In a virtual world commerce, investment, and work all flow freely across borders.

Consequently, the tax bases of states and nations abroad have eroded away in large part to the rapid proliferation of virtual forms of commerce transacting in and out of jurisdictions. Meanwhile, states and foreign tax authorities are just now beginning to enact laws that address taxation in an ever increasing virtual world.

This course is an exploration of the principal tax issues affected by the four pillars of the virtual world:

  •        Virtual Commerce
  •        Virtual Workforce
  •        Virtual Investment
  •        Virtual Currency

Where do digital goods get taxed? Are virtual workers really statutory employees? What are the unique reporting requirements for inbound investment from foreign investors into the US? And, what are the reporting requirements for outbound foreign investment by US persons? Finally, how are virtual currencies taxed? These issues and more will be discussed in this 8-hour workshop.
