William E Rogers

The recent emergence of apps like Uber, AirBNB, Go- FundMe, and Kickstarter have created an industry of free- lancers, creating a “sharing” or “gig” economy. These are new, uncharted waters and the regulations have yet to be defined.

This course will explore tax issues that may arise for taxpayers involved in this new industry:

  • Are they W-2 employees or independent contractors?

  • Are vehicle expenses reported on Form 2106 or Schedule C?

  • Is renting or sharing your home on AirBNB a rental activity or is it a hotel?

  • What is the tax treatment of money raised via a crowdfunding site?
